How It Works
Companions
The Companions 2025 system allows players to spend Downtime Tokens (DT) to enhance their connection with a beast, familiar, or steed. As players rank up, companions gain benefits such as increased AC, additional attunement or non-attunement item slots, telepathic communication, and the ability to take the Help action as a bonus. At the highest rank, companions can hold multiple items and have their hit points doubled. Only one companion can be active at a time unless the player is a Beast Master, and special rules govern mounting, action economy, and restricted beast access.
To use a companion effectively, players must follow key mechanics: issuing complex commands costs a bonus action, companions can act independently if enabled by the owner, and only beasts acquired through Animal Trainers (not purchased in-game) are allowed. Rangers with the Beast Master subclass can access unique options, and players proficient in Animal Handling can add +4 to their Tamer’s Tools rolls for crafting or control.
Companion crafting works like magic item crafting. Players select a beast from the approved list, pay its gold value in Crafting Points (CP), and make rolls to build up CP over time. One gold piece equals one CP, and results from crafting rolls are multiplied by five to determine progress. Once the CP goal is met, a Companion Core is required to bring the creature to life.
